# PromptCacheRetention

```ts
type PromptCacheRetention = "none" | "short" | "long";
```

Defined in: [packages/ai/src/types.ts:1265](https://github.com/TanStack/ai/blob/main/packages/ai/src/types.ts#L1265)

How long the provider keeps the cached start of a request.
`'none'` turns automatic prompt caching off.
